It has a water-repellent DWR finish on the front panel, which will keep you dry in most showers. Although not totally waterproof, the benefit is that you still get great breathability, which is important if you want to allow some of the heat to leave your body and not get trapped inside the jacket. The rear panel is a light weight, more breathable material that allows the body to regulate temperature.
